“Forgot passcode” button not appearing on screen time settings?

A few weeks ago I set up screentime on my phone to set myself limits however I’ve forgotten the passcode and when I tried to turn it off I couldn’t remember the passcode. I’ve looked it up and it says there should be a button underneath it that says “forgotten passcode” however when I look there’s nothing there.

iPhone SE, iOS 16

Hi cammy272,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

This article will walk you through the steps. Go ahead and double-check them: If you forgot your Screen Time passcode.

"On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Go to Settings > Screen Time.
  2. Tap Change Screen Time Passcode, then tap Change Screen Time Passcode again.
  3. Tap Forgot Passcode?
  4. Enter the Apple ID and password* that you used to set up the Screen Time passcode.
  5. Enter a new Screen Time passcode, then enter it again to confirm."

If you are following the steps correctly, be sure you have restarted your device as this can often resolve minor issues. Here's how: Restart your iPhone.

Also be sure your iPhone is running iOS 16.2 and update if it isn't. We want to make sure this issue isn't due to an outdated version of iOS. Here's how: Update your iPhone or iPad.

If the issue continues after this, please contact Apple Support.

Have a fantastic day!
