the network connection was lost

In trying to download the 150mB software package for my VPN, the process consistently stops at around 100mb with the message "the network connection was lost".

Download running in Safari on a mid 2012 retina MacBookPro using OS10.15.6, D/L rate @ 40 - 150 kb/sec meaning a D/L time of approx 15 mins.

Thinking that this could be due to either screen and/or power saving actions, I set screen saver to never & power saving to 1 hour. These changes have had no effect.

The WiFi 'amphitheatre' was full, it was possible to access other sites simultaneously.

This is bizarre as I had previously downloaded LibreOffice @ just under 300mB

I found a previous post with same problem but it was not clear if this was ever solved.

Any ideas ?

Problem solved !

The anti-virus programme Avast was the cause of the problem. Disabling Avast temporarily solved the problem.!
