Keyboard Issue on 2022 Mac Mini

I have just received a brand new Mac Mini and it appears to only supports a 'Magic wireless Keyboard". I have invested in the mac mini to run as a (Time Machine) file server with no keyboard, mouse or monitor routinely connected. I have an iMac with an Apple wired keyboard (with numeric key pad) which I disconnected from my iMac (after powering it down) and connected it to my new mac mini. During setup I was required to enter my WiFi password but was unable to do so as attached USB keyboard would not work. Does this mean I will have to invest in a new wireless magic keyboard?

I was proposing to use screen share to access the Mac Mini after setup. I have an external drive on order. If I set up the disk as a Time Machine backup disk and hard wire my mac Mini to my router I'm hoping that the other local machines on my network ( iMac + 2 MacBook Airs) will be able backup to the new Mac Mini. Is this not the case? I'm looking to replace my aged Time Capsule.

This is not the first case where I've seen older Apple USB Keyboards fail to work with a new Silicon M1 Mac's.

Try using a generic Logitech or PC keyboard and mouse to do the initial setup.

FWIW we had no problem setting up our new M1 Mac mini using an inexpensive Logitech MK 120 combo.

Plus while using the Mac mini as a sever seems like a good idea. Keep in mind that it is a desktop computer and will require User input from time to time. Plus the Mac mini's drive can not be used as a Time Machine backup drive. It must have an external drive(s) connected to it, which poses more of a networking problems than just a using local external drive or a supports NAS for Time Machine.
