Contacts, "Edit Smart Group" grayed out

In Contacts, when I want to edit a Smart Group, the option "Edit Smart Group," under "Edit," is always grayed out.

When I try to drag a specific contact into the Smart Group on the sidebar, that does not work.

No matter what I try, "Edit Smart Group" remains grayed out.

Yes, the Official Support Documentation has been of no use.

(Thank you, P. Phillips, for trying.)

I solved the problem by creating annd naming a new Smart Group and moving into it all the cards from the old group, plus the added card that I needed to add.

I conclude that the problem likely has to do with Apple creating, but not acknowledging, inconsistencies between older and updated versions of Contacts.

Contacts seems to be the clunkiest, least reliable software I use. Maybe I need to stop resisting Outlook . . .
