Remind me options in Mail greyed out

Hello.

The options in Mail under Message: Remind Me are greyed out for many of the e-mails I have.

It does work for the messages in the In-box but not for other, older messages.

Is there an explanation? Perhaps a workaround?

thank you!

Folks, I figured out a work-around that allows you to set reminders for mail in folders. To do this, create a new "Smart Mailbox" that contains messages that match the condition "Message is in mailbox" [Your folder]. E.g.:

When you select messages in that smart mailbox, you can set reminders for them!

The Functionality of the " Remind Me Later " in Apple Mail Application appears to be designed to Only Function on messages in the Inbox of mail and nowhere else

refer to images below

Should this not meet the Users' expectation >> Product Feedback - Apple and make it known to Apple regarding this ongoing  issue or request an Added Feature or Functionality be added to Remind Me Later

It's definitely hobbled for me personally. I have my work emails filtered into different folders depending on what they're related to. This happens in rules. I need Remind Me to work there, it'd make my life so much easier. Having to drag that mail out of its context/folder and putting it in the inbox just so I can use Remind Me is completely counterintuitive to me. But you know, that's just my use case. :/

Hi ReindeR Rustema,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with using the Remind Me feature in your Mac Mail app. We'd like to help.

Do you have more than one email address being used in the Mail app? If you do, have you been able to isolate this issue to a specific provider? Since you mentioned that this happens with only some of your emails, knowing if there is a pattern to which ones can help.

In the meantime, make sure you're looking for the Remind Me option in the correct place:

1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, select the message, swipe right with two fingers on the trackpad, then click Remind Me. You can also Control-click the message.
2. Select one of the following options:
* Remind Me in 1 Hour: Receive a reminder in one hour.
* Remind Me Tonight: Receive a reminder at 9:00 p.m. (local time).
* Remind Me Tomorrow: Receive a reminder at 8:00 a.m. (local time) the next day.
* Remind Me Later: Select a custom date and time to receive a reminder.
You receive a notification for emails you’ve chosen to be reminded of, and they move to the top of your inbox. They also appear in the Remind Me mailbox in the sidebar.

Hope that helps. Let us know those other details and we'll go from there.

Cheers!

Yes, I have many different addresses from a handful different providers. Both different accounts and addresses linked to the same account. It is a legacy situation build up from the early nineties.

When I look at the latest message in each of the inboxes as a preview, the options appear in the menu under Message: Remind Me >. When I control-click on the message or open the message and control-click nothing happens. Just the usual 'look up', 'translate', 'search' etc. Interestingly, when I open the message full screen the options under Message: Remind Me > in the menu bar are also greyed out!

Some of my message are filtered to certain mailboxes. Something I had set up under Eudora in the mid nineties and it still works. Those messages never get the options in no way. Unless I move it to the inbox first. Then the options appear in a similar fashion as described above.

I use POP and not IMAP by the way. All the 80Gb of my e-mail since the early nineties I keep locally (and also backup locally). On the server I only leave the past month of the e-mail I receive on my main address (so I can check it using my iPhone).
