Emails moving from INBOX to TRASH, but I didn't trash them!

I keep having emails that I am saving in my Inbox automatically moved to Trash. Sometimes it happens to emails I haven't even read yet. I have rebooted the phone and tried deleting the email account and re-adding it. The problem persists. I only open my emails on my Iphone, so there is no chance of them being deleted on another device.

We'll need more information to see how we can help. Is this happening with the built-in Mail app or a different app?


Have you ensured your iPhone is updated to the most current software version, which is iOS 16.2? you can check that by going to Settings > General > About > Software Version. Learn more about updating your iPhone here: Update your iPhone or iPad


Are you seeing that these emails are being moved to the trash when you check your account in a web browser instead of an app? Have you checked for any rules set up for that specific account about moving certain emails to the trash?

This is with the Apple Mail App, I don’t use any other mail service. I have my charter.net email account setup with Imap. I never access my mail directly through Charter, so there has been no Rule setup, and no chance that they are being deleted there.

I am updated to 16.2, but this started a few versions ago and hasn’t improved with the latest updates.
