ringtones and call audio not routing to hearing aids

I just upgraded from an iphone SE to a new iphone 13 mini. On my old SE I got ringtones and call audio routed to my Signia Pure Charge 7nx hearing aids no problem. Ringtones were even routed to my hearing aids when the 'silent mode' switch was in the 'silent' position - nice!

However, I can't get audio or ringtones on my hearing aids with the new 13 mini. I have checked and rechecked that the aids are paired correctly with the phone, and that I have Call Audio and Media Audio set to 'Always Hearing Devices'. I have searched the web and watched any number of YT videos, and I believe I have everything set up correctly, but no audio.

Except.. On one occasion when answering a phone call I was able to select a 'headset icon' for call audio - and amazingly, this routed call audio to my hearing aids, but this 'headset icon' wasn't available the next time someone called.

Any ideas?

That should be all you needed to do. I would suggest "Remove Device" from pairing in Accessibility and then do a Reset Network Setting to try and correct any bluetooth issues between the iPhone and the hearing aids. It may seem to be an extreme measure but if you're willing to try go to Settings - General - Transfer or Rest iPhone - Reset - Rest Network Settings. Only RESET NETWORK SETTINGS. Well, as it turns out, the magic *did* happen, but I have no idea why. After trying to get this going for several days without success, it suddenly started working. Now when I get a phone call, I see this:

I'm pretty sure the 'speaker + bluetooth' symbol indicates that the audio is being routed to my bluetooth device aka hearing aids. This symbol hasn't been available until just this morning, and I have no idea what I did to get it - very frustrating, but not as frustrating as not having it at all! ;)
