Turn off Live photo before you take a photo and see if it works. I had the same problem and turning off live photo fixed it.

Those recommendations don’t fix the problem. The issue is even worse during daylight and happens on both front and back camera on my iPhone 14 Pro. When I view the image immediately after taking it, it looks like what I saw when taking the picture but after 2 seconds it automatically changes to become darker. I think it’s a software processing issue. I now over expose my images before taking them because Apple automatically adjusts them to become darker. I don’t like this kind of set up where I don’t have control over what the image capturing process does. Please fix this bug ASAP!
Make sure high contrast style is off. Took me a while to figure it out…
I turned off advance like HDR, and then I turned on auto burst. They have where you can hit the volume button up and do auto burst and if you do that it doesn’t apply something on the photo and it comes out lighter.
Hello josaline128,
It sounds as though photos you're taking appear darker than expected. To confirm, have you tried using the available camera features to adjust how a photo is taken? If not, you may find that using Night mode when you're in a dark lit space beneficial in providing a better quality photo. The issue appears localized to the single zoom (Wide?) rear camera. Other zoom levels as well as the front facing camera all take normal pictures. This appears to be an issue presented in the iOS 16.3 update and was not patched with 16.3.1.
I haven’t really found a permanent solution to this issue, as the iPhone 14 max definitely makes pictures darker. I’ve notice that it really makes things in the sun darker. To make my pictures look the way I want I have turned the vibrance up on my camera and I simply edit my pictures. But if you want the picture to look how it looks before the camera settles and makes things dark simply screenshot the picture very quickly before the camera settles

Apple repair doesn’t read these threads unfortunately. I was given a link to provide Apple feedback about this camera issue affecting the 14 pro and 14 pro max. You can report the bug to Apple here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Your solutions are a joke. There are thousands of people having the same issue. It has nothing to do with how we are using the camera. Apple has admitted this is how this camera is supposed to function even though the photos look awful. They are way too dark, the contrast is off, too sharp and too many shadows. This camera is awful!
Feeling very bad after clicking pictures from my iPhone 14 pro. It gets darker once u click it. Stopped using for selfies. Even my old iPhone take’s better pictures than this one. Please fix this issue asap. This is so bad for iPhone brand.
Same issue for my new iPhone 14 Pro Max. Each selfie photo I take looks normal for 2 seconds then autosaves to a much darker, unflattering contrast. It's very annoying and I can't seem to fix it. Please provide a solution or software update.
There are thousands of people complaining about this all over the Internet on various blogs and websites. Unfortunately it’s a known issue, however Apple is not planning on fixing it to my knowledge. This issue seriously has me contemplating downgrading to an iPhone 13 Pro. It took way better pictures than my 14 pro. Super disappointed in this camera.
This issue has been occurring from day one of having this phone. It’s not due to a software update. And as far as I know Apple is not planning on correct in this issue. They could send an update but have indicated the camera is functioning as design. So disappointing.
