Recovery Mode
My new 24" Imac, Apple M1 has gone into "recovery" mode. The choices are from
- Restore from Time Machine
- Reinstall macOS Monterey
- Safari for support
- Disk Utility
I have a lot of work on the desktop. Which mode do I choose?
Thanks

If it accidentally started into Recovery Mode?
Go to the Apple dropdown menu bar and select Restart.
If you are having other issues that require Recovery Mode?
Please provide more info about what is happening or what you want to do.
We had several power outages in the middle of the night and when restarted it and it takes me back to "The version of macOS on the selected disk needs sto be reinstalled. Use Recovery to reinstall macOS or select another startup disk"
It then gives me the above 4 options. Should I just restore from Time Machine? Or try to repair on Disk Utility? If I install a new copy of Monterey will I lose all my data?
Thanks!
Ah' OK...
Reinstalling macOS over the top does not erase your data.
Disk Utility Repair may not work in this case, but it's worth a shot.
Restoring from Time Machine may not work if the macOS is damaged.
Erasing, reinstalling and migrating from Time Machine would be a last resort.
Because the message implies that the macOS needs to be reinstalled, that is what I would try first.
Thanks so much! It was exactly needed to be done. Once I found how to get the internet re-connected, (hidden on top right) it was smooth sailing.
That is good news, you're welcome.
