Fitness Tracking is greyed out

Hi. I have an Apple Watch 8. Today my steps aren’t being picked up. I looked online, and most people say to check inside Motion & Fitness to make sure Fitness Tracking is toggled on. The Fitness Tracking is on, but it’s greyed out so I couldn’t even toggle it off if I wanted to. I have two more apps in this area - My Fitness Pal and Steps - and these are toggled on but greyed out as well.

Interestingly, it’s letting me access Fitness Tracking in the My Watch app on my iPhone, and I can toggle it there (but it does not change the status of my watch).

Does anyone know how to get the Fitness Tracker on my watch active again? Thanks!

Hi jillbeanster,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

We'd first recommend restarting all devices to see if this triggers the feature into working. Here's how:

  1. Restart your iPhone
  2. Restart your Apple Watch

Then make sure this isn't related to either iOS or watchOS being out of date. Here's how:

  1. Update your iPhone or iPad
  2. Update your Apple Watch

If the issue is still occurring after these steps, contact Apple Support for a deeper dive.

Have a fantastic day!
