I want to download podcasts from the BBC website directly to my iPad 4. Is this possible? The files seems to download, as I get a message "download finished", but then I can' t find them. Where are they stored please? Do I need an app that is not already on the iPad?

The easiest way to access BBC (or other) podcasts is to use the Apple Podcasts App. If not already installed on your iPad, the Apple Podcasts App can be (re)installed from the Apple App Store:

Alternatively, BBC podcasts can be accessed from the BBC Sounds App:

Whether you prefer one or other App - or you choose to both - will be largely determined by personal taste and your podcast listening habits and preferences.
