IPhone 8 gets very hot with use
When playing Words with Friends, my phone now gets hot with 30 min. of use. (It didn't used to) Then it freezes or makes my motions start and stop abruptly.
Do I need a new battery?

What's your battery maximum capacity percentage, shown in Settings>Battery>Battery Health?
If it is close to 83-80%, then yes, it should be replaced.
Shouldn't be this case, for your peace of mind, I suggest that you make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple – Location Selector. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.
