Bug in marking ‘blocked sender’ when address-name within “ name “ quotes

When cleaning up my outlook-spam folder within the iOS mail app I noticed that some addresses were not showing the 🚫 blocked icon when applying a ‘block sender’. Others were processed and showed up immediately.

”names like this” <emailaddress@here…>

the only difference I noticed was that the ‘problematic ones’ had sender names within quotes.

when done I forgot to take a snapshot, yet when viewing my ‘bin’ folder I saw the block-mark applied. So it is processed but didn’t show up at the initial application of the block.

Was it out of view, not loaded correctly? Maybe others can confirm or review their behavior/experience when applying a block.

PS why isn’t there a topic for <iOS mail app>, or is it underneath another category that I did not find?

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

Hi Keepyourapplecloseby,

We're having difficulty understanding the type of support you're seeking. However, it sounds like you need help with blocking senders via email. Is that correct? If so, please take a look at the article below.

Block phone numbers, contacts, and emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Mail
From the Mail app, open the email that has the contact that you want to block, then tap the contact at the top. Tap Block this Contact.

When you block a phone number or contact, they can still leave a voicemail, but you won't get a notification. Messages that are sent or received won't be delivered. Also, the contact won't get a notification that the call or message was blocked. When you block an email address from Mail, it goes to the trash folder. Email blocking works across all your Apple devices.

You can also enable settings to block spam phone calls.

The reason why we are recommending the steps above is because they will show you how to block emails on your device.

If the link above has nothing to do with the type of help you're seeking, please provide us with more information regarding the exact problem you're having with emails on your iPhone, and we'll do our best to help you find a solution.

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

Hi Johnnyboy, thanks for reviewing and giving a best effort answer.

I’m not really searching for help, unless it’s for a direct way to input (feedback) bugs on Apple iOS apps like mail.

Afaik the bug is that any “name within quotes” <email@example> mail that I ‘block sender’ will not show as ‘blocked’ by (not) displaying that icon. Probably something ’weird’ with the background code and the quotes.

“how do I get this ‘small improvement/minor bug’ to the attention of the correct dev team?” might be the actual question… somehow I’m missing a ‘feedback on a possible bug form/page’.

BTW, the difference is in the pictures:

Last pic: ‘no show’ of icon on first applying the ‘block sender’

first pic: after moving the ‘blocked sender’ message to the bin, now the icon is showing up!

again thanks for trying to help and explain the process of blocking and it’s features!

(Luckily we are EU based, no spam calls here 99,9% blocked by the carrier-for now-)
