Sidecar, Screen Mirroring, AirPlay, Universal Control, Handoff not working for "Current User"

Hi,

The following features have never worked for me for the "Current User":

  • Sidecar
  • Screen Mirroring
  • Airplay
  • Universal Control
  • Handoff

Screen Mirroring and Airplay don't work for the "Current User", but work for "Anyone on the Same Network" and "Everyone".

Sidecar, Universal Control, and Handoff depend on an Apple ID (i.e. the "Current User"), so they've never worked.

I've tried factory resetting my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook, restarting, signing in again, using wired connection, and so on. They are all supported models, updated to the latest OS version, on the same network, signed in to the same iCloud account, and have WiFi, Bluetooth, and Airdrop turned on.

This has lead me to believe the issue might be with the local account. I've found that under System Settings > Users & Groups > [username] > Advanced Options > Apple ID list is empty, while Aliases contains one item. However, I haven't found anything else.

Please, let me know if this can be fixed.

Thanks.

Hello GE4,

To determine a fix for this, we'll need to isolate the issue a bit more. To do so, we'd like to have you test to see if the same issue occurs within a different user on your Mac. This will give us an idea whether this is caused by settings for the user on your Mac, or possibly and account issue with your Apple ID.

If needed, you can use the steps in Add a user or group on Mac to create a test user.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
  3. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user. (Administrator)
  4. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
  5. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.
  6. Click Create User.

For this user, be sure you're using the same Apple ID you use in the original user. Sign in to iCloud on all your devices

Let us know if you continue to see issues with these features in a test user when "Current User" is selected on your Mac and you're using the same Apple ID.

Regards.

Hello GE4,

Since this doesn't work in a test user, this issue is system wide. Next, we will need to do the following:

  1. Ensure you are logged in on iCloud using the same Apple ID on all devices and test again.
  2. Start to safe mode and see if any of these features work. Here is how: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

If issues persist in safe mode and the above perimeters are met, we suggest reaching out to Apple Support.

Cheers!
