MacBook Pro (M1 Pro) freezes for a while after login

I'm experiencing the following situation when booting my Macbook.

  1. I turn on the Macbook
  2. I successfully enter my user/password
  3. The OS starts loading but the progress bar freezes (see attached photo)
  4. After some time the screen turns off
  5. When the screens turn off, I press the power button and the OS finish booting
  6. I arrive at my desktop

It is very inconvenient to have the screen to turn off and press the power button again to get the OS to fully boot. Any tip or idea to fix this?

Specs:

  • MacBook Pro 14" (M1 Pro)
  • MacOS Ventura 13.1

Seems like I've solved, but the issue wasn't related to my user account. I've to try several times until I can reach the startup options because it also freezes while loading. Finally, I've been able to boot into safe mode. In this mode, it also freeze after doing the login. At the end, I find out that the thing freezing all loadings is an SD Card that I always have connected to the laptop (as extra storage). Seems like the last version of Ventura has some problems booting while the card is plug-in (previous version didn't give me any trouble). After realising and with the card unplug, I've rebooted the system several times, enter several times into the startup options and everything look normal again.

Thanks for your answer! It really pointed me to the right direction.

Hey aaolpzddg,

Since the issue happens after entering your user account information, we recommend testing this issue in safe mode as it could be a login item causing it to happen. Here's more information on safe mode, how to start there, and the steps to take when you're started up there: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Apple silicon

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Then continue with the steps for either "If the issue continues in safe mode" or "If the issue doesn't continue in safe mode". Keep us posted on the results.

Take care!
