iPhone keypad doesn’t work when using AirPods Pro

When on a call using my apple AirPods Pro, the number pad does not register to the receiver.

Like when selecting options through an automated phone system. I can text or scroll through other apps but can’t “press 1”…I hears tone but the system I am calling will not recognize that I pressed a button. Also all of my devices are up to date and have been restarted.

Hello Alcatraz2022,

To isolate the behavior, have you tested with multiple automated phone systems? We want to make sure this wasn't an isolated incident.

If you have tested this behavior with multiple phone numbers, and it only occurs when your AirPods are connected, let's confirm they are running the latest firmware version. About firmware updates for AirPods will help you with confirming that.

We'll also want to ensure the companion iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. Update iOS on iPhone has steps to back up and update.

  1. Before you update, set up iPhone to back up automatically, or back up your device manually
  2. Go to Settings  > General > Software Update.
    • The screen shows the currently installed version of iOS and whether an update is available.

If your AirPods Pro and iPhone are updated, and the behavior continues, contact Apple Support.

Take care!
