Login Keychain

I keep getting a message that *something* wants to access "Login Keychain." What & why is this?

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities bzbx,

You can find information about Keychain Access, here: What is Keychain Access on Mac?

Keychain Access is a macOS app that stores your passwords and account information, and reduces the number of passwords you have to remember and manage.

The following resource specifically addresses what you're encountering: If your Mac keeps asking for your keychain password

Your keychain may be locked automatically if your computer has been inactive for a period of time or your user password and keychain password are out of sync. You can set a length of time that Keychain Access waits before automatically requiring you to enter your password again.
1: In the Keychain Access app  on your Mac, click “login” in the Keychains list.
2: Choose Edit > Change Settings for Keychain “login.”
3: Select the “Lock after” checkbox, then enter a number of minutes.
4: If you want to require a password each time the computer goes to sleep, select the “Lock when sleeping” checkbox.
5: Click Save.

We hope this is helpful.

Hi bzbx,

Thanks for clarifying. If you're being asked for access to your keychain on Mac, please check out the information outlined in this link, which explains why you may be asked for access, and what to do: If you’re asked for access to your keychain on Mac

If you’re asked for access to your keychain on Mac

When you connect to an app, server, or other item that’s protected by a password, the item tries to retrieve the password from your keychain. Keychain Access requests your permission to provide the password to the app or server.

Choose one of the following options:

• Allow Once: Grant access this time only. You are asked again the next time the app or server needs the password.

• Always Allow: Let the app or server retrieve the password from your keychain without any further authorization or notice from you.

• Deny: Prevent the app or server from retrieving the password from your keychain. You need to enter the password manually.

Take care.

Your reply was not helpful at all, but I appreciate the fact that you did reply.

Perhaps my question was not clear. I was not asking what Keychain Access is, bit rather what is the "message that *something* wants to access "Login Keychain.""

I know what keychain access is and use it quite often. I do not what/why I get the MESSAGE about Keychain Access, or many other system processes, and why these messages interfere with my use of my MacBook Pro.

I hope you or someone else can answer that question for me.

Thanks!
