iTunes Dialog Boxes Open Behind iTunes App Cannot Access Dialog Box

I recently had to do a factory reset of my laptop (Windows 11 Home) due to HW replacement issue. After reinstalling iTunes, every time I select something that opens a dialog box, the box opens behind the iTunes App window, and I cannot move the App window to interact with the box. I cannot Alt-Tab to find the open dialog box.

If I hit Esc the dialog box closes, then I have access to iTunes again. I find if I move the iTunes App window to the side far enough that a piece of the dialog box shows, I can move the dialog box from behind and interact with it.

Example: I select a song and select "delete" the dialog box confirming my delete request opens behind the app window and I cannot interact with it unless I move the main app window to the far-right side of the screen.

Hi tt2

(UPDATED) Thanks for the last response. Looks like for now I'm going to have to deal with it the way it is. I recall some time back after a reinstall of iTunes due to it taking forever to open, this same issue presented itself. After a period of time, it seemed to resolve itself. Hopefully I'll have the same results here after another period of time.

EDITED UPDATE: I have just recreated the issue. If I connect my iPhone for sync, that's when this happens. Not having the iPhone connected to iTunes there is no issue. This is very strange behavior and possibly you can see if this happens with you too. I'd be interested if you can recreate this issue and prove it is possibly an issue with iTunes code.

There are two parallel releases of iTunes, one via the Microsoft Store, the other in the form of an iTunes64Setup.exe installer. Switching from one branch to the other could help. Alternatively you might try installing the previous iTunes64Setup.exe release, or the one before that. Links to recent releases can be found at the bottom of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - Apple Community.

A number of recent builds of iTunes have been using the same version of the .itl file, but I checked the Previous iTunes Libraries folder on one of my machines and see an archived library on December 21st. So to go back to the older version of iTunes I would also need to copy that file into my main iTunes folder, and then rename the existing iTunes Library.itl file as something like iTunes Library (Bad iTunes).itl and the file I just copied as iTunes Library.itl.

I know I've run into this issue with modal boxes before, and not just with iTunes. I think sometimes just having another app open like Explorer or Notepad can help as you can Alt-Tab to that, and then when you Alt-Tab again Windows puts the right pane on top. Annoyingly the app thumbnail in the taskbar doesn't show the modal box separately to the main window or that would be another approach.

Hi TT2

I've done the reinstall more times than I should have in order to make it function as intended with the exception of the annoying dialog box issue.

Further with the factory reset it required numerous updates to drivers to bring to current so that's not the issue either.

I saw this post on another thread that was closed because there were no recent responses so, I have reposted the problem here to see if anyone knows how to correct it.

Hi tt2

I actually saw that post previously trying to resolve iTunes issues resulting from the factory reset. I did try the install of a previous version; however, iTunes would not permit it. Once I installed a previous version and tried to launch iTunes, iTunes wouldn't launch stating I was using an older version that was incompatible with my existing iTunes Library.itl and I had to reinstall the Microsoft Store iTunes version.

I encountered this trying to resolve the slow startup of iTunes... switching between versions, and numerous other fixes. That issue finally resolved itself by a complete uninstall using Revo Uninstaller and then reinstalling the Microsoft Store version.

I'm open to other suggestions to resolve the dialog box opening behind the main app window. Please note several other people have reported this issue under other various posts that have since been closed due to lack of responses which, is why I created this new post.
