Using airtag and iPad with no iPhone as a baggage tracker

Hello,

I'm interested in getting an airtag as a baggage tracker for myself. I don't have an iPhone, but I do have an iPad Air. I'm concerned that the anti-stalking feature will active as my iPad is turned off for the most part while I'm traveling (in the airport, etc.). I'm really not sure how this feature works though honestly.

Thanks for any info and/or tips!

First, you perhaps need to understand that while your iPad is fully useable with AirTags, the iPad does not have the short-range Precision Finding capabilities of an iPhone. The iPad lacks the UltraWideBand (UWB) “U1” radio chip that is used for precision finding to work.

As for anti-stalking, this feature allows you to be alerted to an AirTag, that doesn’t belong to you, that appears to be in your continuous proximity while you are travelling. Clearly, you must have a compatible Apple-device with you (and turned-on) for you to receive alerts of this type.
