Why can we still not see STIR/SHAKEN status while a call is ringing or block unverified calls 3 years after being added to iOS?

Partial support for STIR/SHAKEN has been in iOS since 13, which was over 3 years ago.

But the current level of support is still effectively useless.

The iPhone knows when a call is verified or not, but it only shows you after you the call is finished.

So calls can still be spoofed just as before since there is no indication of the verification status until after the fact.

Android phones show you directly while the phone is ringing.

So why doesn't Apple show you that the calls are not verified while the phone is ringing?

Also why doesn't Apple let us silence/block non-verified calls?

Apple currently only lets you 'silence unknown callers' which is all callers not in your Contacts, regardless of verification status.

This is clearly something that is easily doable on the phone directly.

Hello calc76,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Allow us to assist and share some information with you. Currently, STIR/SHAKEN is a carrier implemented feature. If you do have issues with spam phone calls, we recommend that you follow the following public resource here: Detect and block spam phone calls - Apple Support

This resource does go over ways you can silence unknown callers. You did mention that you were already aware of this specific feature on the iPhone. Additionally, there is a section within this resource that discusses the use of third-party apps that are available in the App Store that might be able to help you further:

Set up an app to filter and detect spam calls
1.)Go to the App Store and download an app that detects and blocks spam phone calls. You can download and install multiple apps with this feature from different app developers.
2.)Go to Settings > Phone.
3.) Tap Call Blocking & Identification.
4.) Under Allow These Apps To Block Calls And Provide Caller ID, turn the app on or off. You can also reorder the apps based on priority. Just tap Edit and then drag the apps in the order you want them.

If you want to leave Apple feedback regarding many areas of their existing business, please review their Unsolicited Ideas Submission Policy here: Legal - Unsolicited Idea Submission Policy - Apple

Review the section under "Product Feedback". Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Best of luck.
