iPhone will not give text alert when computer open

I have seen this in a few questions without an adequate answer. Whenever I am using a MacBook, my iPhone will not make text notification noises. I have all the notifications on. I don’t understand why this is so difficult, but I want the iPhone to ALWAYS, ALWAYS make the text notification sound regardless of other Apple devices in use. Otherwise, they are missed and it has caused a LOT of problems with trying to communicate. What is the solution? I shouldn’t have to delete Messages on the computer or do other things like that. All I want is that the iPhone make the same noise every time a text comes in.

Hi JohnAnnArbor,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

You can turn off the Messages notifications for your Mac which may resolve this issue for you. This article will describe how: Manage notifications from Messages on Mac.

'Change or turn off all notifications from Messages

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Notifications  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Go to Application Notifications on the right, click Messages, then do one of the following:
    • Change notifications: Set options, such as the style of notifications or where to show them. To learn about the options, click the Help button  at the bottom of the window.
    • Turn off all notifications from Messages: Turn off “Allow notifications.” '

If the issue continues after this, contact Apple Support for a deeper dive.

Have a fantastic day!
