Recovery Key shows OFF on one screen but ON in the next screen

I just enabled the encryption for iCloud using my iPhone 12, ios16.2. I added a Recovery Contact and enabled the Recovery Key. This included re-entering the Recovery Key. However, on the first page for "Account Recovery" the Recovery Key shows "Off". When I click on the carat/arrow to go to the next screen for Recovery Key, the Recovery Key switch shows On/Green/Switch-Position-Right. If my Account Recovery Key is "On" as indicated on the Recovery Key page then is there some logic or meaning to the indication on the Account Recovery page for Recovery Key "Off"? Or is this a bug? Very confusing! Thanks for your help in understanding this important element for recovery of the encrypted iCloud account.

Hi lbleb1123...I'm having the same issue.


While the Recovery Key switch always shows green, on the Account Recovery page the Recovery Key line sometimes shows "OFF" and sometimes shows "ON" (typically it will stay on a particular setting for a day or so). See images below.

I've contacted Apple support about this and have an active ticket. So far though, no resolution.

Since setting up the Recovery Key, I've also been getting occasional requests (via a Settings notification) to re-enter the device passcode (on all my devices other than my current iPhone) so that it can continue to be used for account recovery.
