Podcast Screen

when I listen to a podcast after a certain amount of time the phone itself goes dark but I can still hear the podcast - when I pick my phone up the podcast screen does not show the entire podcast screen that allows me to specifically adjust the volume so I have to press the home key to get back to podcast. Before the last update I did not have to go through the last step (opening the screen pressing the home button) to get back to the podcast screen. Seeing the full screen made it possible to quick like a bunny adjust the volume when I needed to without having to look at the phone which comes in handy when sitting in the car at a redlight (phone connected to Bluetooth in car). Do I need to make an adjustment somewhere to get this back to where is was? The first image is the full whole screen I could see when phone was 'napping' the 2nd image is how ithe screen looks after the update, the time is taking up half the space.
