Getting back to thread on messages

In messages, I tried what Axel Foley said..To tap on any place above the message to go back to main messages page. It did not work. How can I make an arrow to ‘go back’ please, as nothing seems to work. TYVM

In iMessage - when you are in an individual conversation, the message space takes up the whole screen and there is no back button or arrow to return to your other conversations on the left hand side. You are forced to kill the messages app and restart the app. Then and only can can you once again view the full list of iMessage conversations.

Can't scroll back to previous message while texting after iOS 17 update I remember the first time this happened was after the previous iOS 16 update. As you were texting the reply box would get bigger and bigger and hide the previous message. However, I had discovered that there was a little arrow to the left of the reply box that take you back to the previous message. Now since the 17 update that little arrow is no longer there!! There is just a + that has other settings. If I pull down on the screen it will take me back to the previous message until my reply box is too big and then it takes up the whole screen and I can't see the previous message at all!! So frustrating these updates that muck around changing things when it all worked just fine!!! How do I read my previous message now!? It's important to be able to scroll back so I can refresh my memory on everything the text said so I can reply back properly.

When I reply to a specific text message in a thread, once I hit send, then my screen locks and I can't get back to the full thread. Is this a bug? How do I get back to the full text thread after I reply to one specific text of the full thread?

If you are reading a message and want to go back, Tap the arrow in the upper left portion of the screen.
