Yes. All will remain on the Mac you have migrated from. The backup you'd use is its own piece of storage.

My recollection is that the Migration assistant wanted only your permission, and that it would auto- log you out if you provided your permission.
It is not asking you to manually log out, as that would quit Migration Assistant
Although the article about it uses the term MOVE your content to a new Mac, it is in fact a COPY operation, and nothing is removed from the Source during the process.
Thank you. I have 2 user accounts on the old machine. Trying migration asst, says need to logout if one account. Seems Mac doesn’t recognize the logout

Ok, then my recollection is too foggy.
It does take a while to do the logout and setup to start the transfer.
