OS does not update in background

Hi, I have ticked the auto update box but when I check manually, I find there are uninstalled updates. I would be grateful for a suggestion about how to fix this.

Thanks,

In most if not all update to commence , it will request the User to Verify there Ownership of this computer by manually keying in the Computer Password.

Once that has been satisfied, the Download will commence.

The It willurompt for a second Verification of Ownership of the computer via the same Computer Password process.

Once that is done, the Installation will commence.

Is may appear to be pain in . . . but it work much the same for iOS for iPhones and iPads

At least on the 3 Machines and 1 iPhones that is how it has work since macOS 11 Big Sur and every version there after

You are welcome and Thank you too.

Do not mean to sound off handed but for that specific aspect of " Quote: "Automatically: Install macOS updates".

It is implied though not specifically stated the previous instructions have been followed.

As Apple has become more and more Security Conscience. they have made it a Requirement to Verify the Ownership of any device.

Should that not be to the users liking ➡️

Then have a few suggestions ;

1 - Get Support Choose a product and we’ll find you the best solution.Start now and open an Apple Support Ticket as they are Apple Employees to deal will these types of issues.

Perhaps if enough users take the effort to log their dislike - Apple may or may not consider changing the Wording

2 - Product Feedback - Apple and make it known to Apple regarding this ongoing issue

There is actually nothing to fix.

As per the 2nd image above , the computer is running a version of macOS 12 Monterey Older than the current version Monterey 12.6.2

The above is referred to as an UpDate

That , Monterey 12.6.2, is being offered but the User has Not enable it to Auto Download

In the 1st image above, this computer Qualifies to upGrade to a newer version of macOS called macOS 13 Ventura

It is suggested based upon good computer practices to UpDate the Monterey to version 12.6.2

Once that is completed, then any only then upGrade to macOS 13 Ventura

Perhaps my question was not sufficiently detailed. I'll stick with Monterey for a while. I was wondering why the three available updates had not installed in the background, overnight for example, when the auto update box is ticked?

Also, I did not untick the checkbox opposite the 12.6.2 security update. It was like that when I opened the window. I would like the computer to install security updates automatically, or at the very least download them and prompt me to install.
