MIDI control surface device that works in GarageBand 10.4.7

My MIDI control surface device worked great in GarageBand up to 10.4.5. After that it shows up as a MIDI device but not as a control surface.

The manufacturer's answer after that was "don't upgrade GarageBand until we fix it." It's now 10.4.7, there's still no update, and they're "still evaluating" the hardware under macOS Ventura according to their last compatibility table, which also states: "use the Apple standard drivers." The note in GarageBand says something like "get a driver from the manufacturer."

Well...???

In Logic Pro the controller is recognized as a MIDI control surface and works fine. My MIDI keyboard works well in both apps (probably because it's not a control surface).

SO...long story short, is there a MIDI control surface hardware device that works with the CURRENT version of GarageBand (10.4.7), and who updates their drivers on a regular basis as the app evolves? (There's a lot of manufacturers that say they do support GB, but they don't support the current version, so that's important to know.)
