It is fully possible there is more than one reason for this to happen, here I am sharing what fixed it for me:

I had installed and uninstalled iTunes for Windows and that left some remnant directories with wrong access permissions in place. The procedure below fixes that.

  1. Uninstall completely your current version of iCloud (14 at the time of writing)
  2. Reboot the PC
  3. In the File Explorer navigate (paste in address bar) to %PROGRAMDATA% directory
  4. Remove any Apple folders you see (assumes you have no other Apple software installed) or at least any iTunes related folders. Administrative rights may be required.
  5. Install iCloud for Windows from the App Store
  6. Wait forever to sync up... 😊 but you should see numbers of files remaining when you click on the iCloud icon in your "system tray icons"

There are ways to actually trace what goes wrong with iCloud, but is complicated. Post here your results and I will try to help.

Hey there s1mkp,

We understand iCloud for Windows keeps asking you for your password. We'd be happy to provide information to help you out with this.

You'll need to sign in with an app-specific password. Use the steps here to generate one:

Sign in to apps with your Apple ID using app-specific passwords

How to generate an app-specific password
1. Sign in to appleid.apple.com.
2. In the Sign-In and Security section, select App-Specific Passwords.
3. Select Generate an app-specific password or select the Add button Blue plus sign icon., then follow the steps on your screen.
4. Enter or paste the app-specific password into the password field of the app.

Regards.
