how can I recall a text msg if. When I tap edit message I don’t see the option to “show recently deleted msg”

I do not have an option to Show Recently Deleted texts. I have iOS16.6, iphone SE 3rd gen. How can see deleted texts? I think I deleted an incoming text accidentally while I was simultaneously swiping/deleting existing text conversations. It appears only if you deleted message(s) while using iOS 16 or later.
