My new iPhone shows my carrier as iPhone 53.0 in my settings

While I realize the carrier is reported as "iPhone," if you go to:

Settings -> General -> About

is "No SIM restrictions" reported next to "Carrier Lock?"

If it is, your phone is indeed unlocked.

My issue has been resolved. The carrier (AT&T) setup a new eSIM for my iPhone 14 plus which resolved my issue.

I called at&t, the first person tried sending me to a store. The second one said they were submitting the ticket for carrier visibility. From what I’ve seen after I posted this, that seems to be the fix. I do wonder why it gets stuck like that since it doesn’t effect the use of physical sims at all.

I’m having the same issue. I’m trying to switch from T-Mobile to Verizon. And I paid for my 14 pro max in full. T-Mobile says my phone is unlocked and my number was ported over, but Verizon is saying T-Mobile still has ahold of the esim. T-Mobile told me to delete the esim and now the carrier says iPhone 53.0. This literally all happened today too.

Did you manage to delete iphone 53.0?

I am having same issue as well. No carrier can tell me where iPad originally had service through. So frustrating. Anybody find a resolution?
