Unable to send photos with my new iPhone to non-iPhone users through Messages

I can text with non-iPhone users from my iPhone but my pictures, videos do not go through with my new iPhone 14 pro. I can, however, send photos and videos to folks with iPhones.

Hi jcm53byu,

You started from a great resource: What is the difference between iMessage and SMS/MMS?

Regarding sending media content to non-iPhone users be sure the SMS/MMS option are turned on. Navigate to Settings > Messages and under the SMS/MMS section toggle on MMS Messaging.

If needed, the article here can assist as well: Send and receive messages on iPhone

Should you continue to have an issue, reach out to your cellular provider to ensure the feature and your account are provisioned to send SMS/MMS messages.

If your carrier states all is well, follow the steps here: If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad

Cheers.

Turning it off in Settings on the phone doesn't generally solve the problem. The issue is in Verizon's network. Even though it says the settings are enabled, they are not. Having Verizon turn off and turn on the feature forces the network switch to refresh and recognize that the feature is enabled.

Some people have reported success toggling the feature in the Verizon app.

Hi all,

tried several things that are mentioned in the reply's but nothing worked and my iCloud and FaceTime are logged in with the same account.

the only thing that worked for me was turning of Wifi so the message was send via the SIM and not over Wifi.

It’s very annoying but for me the only solution, hope it helps for others and hope they fix this.

Greetings

IT IS NOT THE CARRIER! Those saying it is are incorrect. This issue of not being able to send photos from my iPhone to any android (single or group text) has been plaguing me on and off for months. I JUST FIGURED IT OUT. I went to settings —> messages and turned off iMessage. I restated the text app and sure enough I was able to send pics to an android phone and to a group text with an android phone in it. I then turned iMessage back on, and while I still got a green bar that moved a little slowly, it did send after about 20 seconds.

I had this issue for months and found this thread and tried all the suggestions.

The suggestion that finally fixed it for me was turning off iMessage and MMS messaging.

Then I sent a pic to a non-iPhone user. (Which went through).

Then I turned them both back on, and pictures began going through again to non-iPhone users.

I have no idea why this worked, but it did and I’m happy about it.

Well, you are partially right. It is not a carrier issue nothing updated there but, I took the information you provided and applied it to the iPhone, and it worked. I mean I sent a huge file just to test it too.

These instructions worked for my iPhone 14 after updating to iOS 16.6

Step 1. Go to Settings.

Step 2. Scroll down to Messages and press the '>'

Step 3. Scroll down to MMS. If it is Off, turn it On, if it is On, turn it Off (Mine was ON already).

Step 4. Say "Hey Siri, Reboot" and press the restart button.

Step 5. Repeat Steps 1, 2, and 3. But this time making sure the end result is MMS switched to on.

Step 6. Repeat Step 4

Sucks to have to go through all of that, but makes kinda sense I guess, Apple care is always having me switch the MacBook Pro , iPhone, and Apple Watch off and on so many times I think I will need a new on/off button. I like telling Siri to turn off though LOL. Hope this helps!

Ok so I did contact my carrier which is Spectrum, they were extremely nice and helpful. They reset my account settings and had me reset the network setting on my iPhone. I also did this to my husband's iPhone. At the moment it seems to have worked. However I still get the red exclamation point in the red circle and it says Not Delivered. This is still very annoying because I don't know if they did get it and if they don't respond after awhile I have to text them again to see if they actually got it. So I think I will talk to Apple about this next.

@jcm53byu I bet you can't send/receive group texts either.

The only way I was able to fix this problem was to change carriers. I went from "Total by Verizon" to Verizon. Yes, same company, but Total is a newly acquired subsidiary that is less expensive than Verizon.

Verizon was able to keep my phone number and enter my account as a new one. I also upgraded my phone from an 11 to a 14, but I knew when I did it that that alone wouldn't fix the problem, I was just falling for the "free" spin the crafty salesman delivered the suggestion with (the cost was signing up to a three year contract) and I figured the aggravation of the whole experience meant I owed myself a reward.
