storage issue

I have a late 2021 ipad pro, its been great. but I bought the newer ipad M2 in december and when I prepped my old one for hand-over I got this storage issue. Its misreading storage at over double the device capacity. Even tho I updated to the most recent update (16.2) shortly after christmas and have deleted a huge swath of illustration work to try free up some space. Now it wont accept new files cos of space. Im swapping the new ipad for one with more storage (which I wouldve bought if Id known up front) but wondering if this issue will affect the new ipad too? The device is def misreading cos it says one app has 229Gigs of data on it when the app has only 148 file which are 98% of them in the KB size range and the other 2% are smaller than 25Megs. I use the ipad professionally, its my main tool and this is quiet a serious issue to me actually, Im losing actual work and work hours at a crucial point. It really should be properly addressed with a fix.
