Hi kimmackgsa,

If we understand correctly, you're using a Mac and want to export the contents of the Contacts app so you can import them into a Gmail account. Is that right?

We're happy to share the steps to Export or archive contacts in Contacts on Mac. The steps you'll need to follow will depend on the format you want to export to:

"Export all contacts

  • In the Contacts app  on your Mac, choose File > Export > Contacts Archive, choose a location, then click Save.

The contacts are exported as an archive file (.abbu) only."

If you need them in a different format, you'd need these steps instead:

"Export contacts using Numbers

You can use Contacts and Numbers together to export Contacts to additional file types, such as CSV or Excel.

Important: If you have contact notes and photos or made your card private, fields you opted not to share will be included when you export your card using Numbers.

  1. In the Contacts app  on your Mac, select one or more contacts.
  2. Open the Numbers app  on your Mac, then open a new or existing spreadsheet.
  3. Drag the selected contacts into the Numbers spreadsheet.
  4. Choose File > Export To, then select an option.
  5. The contacts can be exported as an Excel, CSV, TSV, or Numbers ’09 file."

Once you've exported the contents into one of the file formats listed above, you'd want to check out the Google support site for instructions on importing contacts into their service.

Best wishes.
