Cannot Launch 'WirelessSetting.app' | Samsung M2020 w/ M1 Mac Mini

Hello

I'm unable to configure my Samsung M2020 wireless printer with my M1 Mac Mini.

It used to work OK (wouldn't print from Preview, but would from a browser, etc), but I reset the printing settings and now cannot regain wireless printing.

I've installed the latest drivers, but can't launch the Samsung utility designed to connect over Wifi. App is called 'Wireless Setting.app', but when I launch it, I get a dialogue box that says

You do not have permission to open the application “Wireless Setting.app”.

Please advise! It's driving me nuts.

Hi,

Do you really need a special application (which may not be compatible)?

The following user's guide (page 97) appears to indicate that it should be possible to use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), if the Wi-Fi router supports it:

Thank you for the information.

This means that your printer is wirelessly connected to the Wi-Fi network.

What about the M1 Mac mini? I suppose that this computer is connected to the Wi-Fi network as well. For example, is it possible to access the Internet from this Mac via the Wi-Fi network?

If so, you would not need any Wi-Fi connection utilities at all. It is more a question about how the Mac and the printer are interacting. This brings us to device discovery, printer drivers and the way the printer has been added on the Mac.

Which exact version printer driver have you installed, and from where did you download this driver?

Also, you could try the following power-cycle sequence (with these waiting times; do not forget the router): Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac mini, and all other connected devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac mini. Finally, power on all other devices/computers.

Hi Jan

Thanks so much for your help!

I tried the steps outlined in the link you provided, but no dice. Printer remains offline.

There just doesn't seem to be a way to initialize a connection over WiFi without using the app designed to do so. I ticked 'Allow apps from Apple and other identified developers' in System Prefs, but it still won't let me launch the application, which has me scratching my head.

I must've tried every option I could find online and on YT, but I'm coming up empty. Arrgh!

Thanks agains for any ideas you might priovide,

Tim
