Auto delete videos and images from messages that have already been downloaded

I am curious if there is a way to automatically delete videos and pictures from messages that have already been downloaded to my phone. I have roughly 20GB worth of large attachments being saved in messenger. Most of these are videos and pictures that my wife and I send back and fourth of our kids. I don’t want to lose them, but I usually download them to my pictures app. I could sort through each video and picture to see if I have downloaded it, but that would take forever.

mom hoping there is a way to auto delete from messages if the file is already downloaded.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there HugoShlovic,

The only way to remove photos or videos from the Messages app on your iPhone would be by following these steps from Delete or hide photos and videos on iPhone:

Delete or hide multiple photos and videos
While viewing photos in an album or in the Days or All Photos view in your library, do either of the following:
• Delete: Tap Select, tap or drag your finger on the screen to select the items you want to delete, then tap the Delete button.
• Hide: Tap Select, tap or drag your finger on the screen to select the items you want to hide, tap the More button, then tap Hide.

If you would like to see this added in future updates, then we would encourage you to submit your feedback using this link: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Take care!
