HomeKit Hubs/Bridges

I’ve used a hue bridge for my smart lights for a while but I’ve just bought a Wi-Fi camera and want to access HomeKit secure video.

Can I have the hue bridge AND my Apple TV (4th Gen) both as Hubs?? If so how do I add the Apple TV in the home app?

the settings on the tv itself say it’s connected to HomeKit but the home app doesn’t seem to show it anywhere!

please help!!

Hello Benial.peters,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. A Philips Hue Bridge would not qualify as a home hub. You can use a HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV or an iPad as a home hub. That information is outlined here: Set up your HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, or iPad as a home hub

Here's how to ensure that the Apple TV is set up as a home hub:

Set up Apple TV as a home hub
Apple TV* automatically becomes a home hub when you add it to HomeKit.

1. Open Settings on Apple TV.

2. Select Users and Accounts. Make sure your name is selected under Default User and that you're
signed in to iCloud with the Apple ID that you used to set up your HomeKit and Matter accessories
in the Home app.

3. Go back to Apple TV Settings, then select AirPlay and HomeKit.

4. Scroll down and select Room, then choose a room or add a new room.

This information is outlined in the article we previously provided.

Once that's confirmed, you can add the Philips Hue Bridge to HomeKit by following these steps:

How to set up Philips Hue with Apple HomeKit
1. Open the Philips Hue app and navigate to Settings > HomeKit & Siri.
2. Tap Pair Hue Bridge.
3. Name your home and tap Create home.
4. When the app opens your camera, scan the ID on the bottom of your Hue Bridge.
5. Your lights will appear in a default room the Home app. Organise and group your lights into rooms to reflect their physical locations in your home.

These steps are outlined on the website Philips: How to set up Philips Hue with Apple HomeKit

Kind regards.
