how to determine the total time my iMac has been in use?

I cannot find an answer.

I found a terminal command "ac" but the number is not very trustworthy I guess:3789.66. I guess that ar the hours it has been operating?, but this does not seem right: the machine is from 2013 and I use it daily for many hours. I leave the machine on, so that would give me 158 days … can't be right!

So, is there a way to determine this?

Good question!


The "ac" Terminal command is all I can find for total time. I just ran it on my 2012 Macbook Pro bought in the summer of 2013 and got 6595.85 hours. This is my backup/travel computer and ofter sits in my backpack turned off.


Terminal has "manuals" for basic commands. In Terminal, enter man ac to read how it is supposed to work. There are some options to place after the command that might change the results:
