My external backup drive with the Time Machine is broken. Is there a way to migrate the date from my current computer (Mojave) to a new iMac (Ventura)?

I purchased a new iMac. My external backup drive with the Time Machine is broken. Can I migrate the data from the old computer (Mojave) to the new one (Ventura)?

If your Time Machine drive is broken then replace it! You need to backup the old computer and the new computer, that is a given. If you were using lower quality External Hard Disk such as a:

• WD EHD

• Seagate External Hard Disk

• Toshiba EHD

• Some LaCie EHD

then replace it with a higher quality enclosure such as an OWC Mercury Elite Pro which has superior cooling, this makes the HD last longer and reduces your costs. When the HD does eventually die (they all do) the enclosure is not a throw away like most of the ones listed above and replacing the HD is a 5 minute process!

Thanks for the thorough information. Unfortunately, I already bought a new LaCie 5TB rugged USB-C as it was the only one at Best Buy. Should have waiting for more professional advice to get the other 4TB LaCie. I think upon thorough reading of all the suggestions submit by so many in the Apple community, I will be able to accomplish the backup of iTunes and then proceed with the migration to my new iMac.

Can' tell you how pleased I am at all the comments submitted. Thanks to all of you.
