Split View Management for AppleTV

Last Year I have been able to use my iPad with split view of Photos and Good Notes but only mirroring Photos via AppleTV. Since the last update both panels are mirrored and I cannot find a way to change this behaviour. Is this possible at all?

Hi JoeGavilan,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. When mirroring your iPad to Apple TV, your display will show whatever is on your iPad as mentioned in the following section of Wirelessly stream videos and photos to Apple TV or a smart TV from iPad - Apple Support.

"Mirror your iPad on Apple TV or a smart TV

On Apple TV or a smart TV, you can show whatever appears on your iPad.

  1. Open Control Center on your iPad.
  2. Tap the Screen Mirroring button, then choose your Apple TV or an AirPlay 2-enabled smart TV as the playback destination.

If an AirPlay passcode appears on the TV screen, enter the passcode on your iPad.

To switch back to iPad, open Control Center, tap the Screen Mirroring button, then tap Stop Mirroring."

However, you may be looking for the photo specific steps in this section of the same article.

"Show photos on Apple TV or an AirPlay 2-enabled smart TV

  1. In Photos  on your iPad, tap a photo, then tap the Share button.
  2. Swipe up, tap the AirPlay button, then choose your Apple TV or an AirPlay 2-enabled smart TV as the playback destination.

If an AirPlay passcode appears on the TV screen, enter the passcode on your iPad.

To stop streaming photos, tap the AirPlay button near the top of the iPad screen, then tap Turn off AirPlay."

Take care.

Thank you faith185 for the answer. I use my ipad in my arts lessons for three years now. Let me assure you that I loved to mirror a series of works of art with Photos and to hide my Goodnotes-notes in the second half of my split screen. This procedure has become that handy, that I decided to digitalise all my notes last summer. It worked that way until Christmas.

If I understand you right, the last system update has cut this opportunity. Which means, I have to print my digitalised notes and carry paper folders again. This would be a remarkable and questionable evolution of the iPadOS.
