IPad Pro 12.9 5th gen - audio to line in

I have an iPad Pro 12.9 5th gen (M1) and want to connect it to the audio input on my Roland keyboard so I can listen to videos and play along with them.

Unfortunately, there's no sound from the USB C to headphone adapter when I plug it into my keyboard and listen via the headphone output on the keyboard. Headphones work perfectly OK when used with the USB C adapter.

I know the USB C lead and keyboard setup works because my iPhone plays back perfectly.

Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong or suggest another cable which may work better?
