Apple USB-C 2m charge cable smell

Purchased an original Apple USB-C 2m Charge cable Jan 2023 from Amazon UK, on opening packaging I noticed a strong mildew/mold smell from the cable. I placed a review on Amazon UK stating the issue thinking it was a storage issue at Amazon as I noticed a number of Amazon reviews also reported the smell.

However on searching the web I notice the issue seems to have been widespread across various countries and from also from cables purchased direct from Apple, and has been the reported over a number of years.

On checking my charge cable Apple packaging there is a date of 10/22. It seems that people sending cables back for replacements have cables returned with the same issue even direct from Apple.

Seems strange its not something I would expect from a premium priced product from such a prestigious company.

Has the issue been or going to be resolved?
