27 inch iMac replacement

I have a 2013 27 inch iMac which has served me very well…. Until recently. I cannot upgrade beyond Catalina 10.15. I am a photographer and use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I can’t benefit from the latest updates to these programmes as they aren’t compatible with my computer. These programmes also crash the computer now.

The latest 27 inch iMac is nearly 3 years old already so I don’t fancy getting one of those. Please, please will there be a new 27 inch iMac this year so I can go out and buy one? Otherwise what do I do?

Currently the only Apple 27" offering is the Mac Studio and Studio Display or the Mac Mini and Sutido Display.

Based on the specs it appears that the minimal/basic Mac Studio would blow your current iMac out of the water.

If you can use two screens the iMac 24" with a 3rd party 27" 2nd screen would be a formable machine.

As they say: all it takes is money!

Impossible to know what Apple has planned, as they don't make their pans known ahead of time, and there have been absolutely no indications of a 27" iMac coming anytime soon.

Your best bet is a different Mac with a separate 27" Display.

The new M1 Mac mini's are equal to the new 24" M1 iMac in power and you get to pick the display.

27'' or larger, dual if you like.

FWIW after having the display fail in an all-in-one, we moved to the Mac mini line-up back in 2012 and have been very satisfied ever since.

If you must have the 3 extra diagonal inches, then yes a separate display would be required. If you can live with the 24" display, the current iMac is a good machine with a very good display.

For third party displays, I'd go for BenQ, or LG's Ultra Fine offerings.

Otherwise... you get a M1 Mac mini and an aftermarket 27" Display.

or... you break into the bank and get a Mac Studio and a Studio Display.

Yes, not the best alternatives but the only ones that exist. The simplicity of the all-in-one iMac with a huge screen it seems is no longer going to be available. Not happy.
