Can't accept invitations on Calendar on iPhone

When I get invitations on my iPhone, I click on the invite attachment and it goes straight into my calendar. But there is no mechanism to ACCEPT or decline the invitation. I actually have to go to my MacBook (which isn't always with me for hours at a time) and click on the event in the calendar on the laptop to accept the invitation. This is incredibly inconvenient and leaves my clients and other attendees (some of whom I'm just meeting for the first time) in the dark, wondering if I'm going to attend the meeting. My only option is to reply by email. It makes me look like I don't understand how accepting invitations works. Both calendars are synced in iCloud, so I don't understand why only one of them provides a mechanism to accept a meeting. Should I call AppleCare? I'm using an iPhone 12 Pro Max running 16.1.2 and a 2021 MB Air running 12.6. (I tried scrolling to the Show As button on the iPhone and clicking "Free," but when I looked on my laptop, the invitation had still not been accepted, so I accepted it on the laptop.)

Sad to report, it didn't work after all. Today, an invite arrived as an attachment to an email. I clicked the attachment and the event went immediately onto my Calendar . But when I click on the Inbox in the bottom right corner, a new page appears with the headings New and Replied. Looking under New, it says No Invitations. When I look under Replied, it says No Invitations. In my Calendar, if I click on the event itself, my only option at the bottom is Delete Event.

Now, when I click on the very same event on my MacBook Air Calendar, the event is grayed out. At the bottom, my options are: Maybe or Decline or Accept. If I click Accept, the event will appear in color and the host will see that I plan to attend. But only on my MacBook Air.

Thanks so much for trying Lissy. Any other suggestions from anybody? I'd love to solve this iPhone Calendar issue.

Hi Smcm2,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! To clarify, are you following the steps below from your device:

Reply to invitations in Calendar on iPhone

Reply to an event invitation
1. To respond to an event notification, tap it.
Or, in Calendar, tap Inbox, then tap an invitation.
2. Tap your response—Accept, Maybe, or Decline.
To respond to an invitation you receive by email, tap the underlined text in the email, then tap Show in Calendar.
If you add comments to your response, your comments can be seen by the organizer but not by other attendees (comments may not be available for all calendars). To see events you declined, tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen, then turn on Show Declined Events.

Thanks!

Have a great day.
