MacBook can't login network error

I recently found an old Macbook of mine. I believe it is running Mac tiger OS. I am unable to sign in because I get a Network error. It says the network device is disconnected when I try to log in. The problem is I can't change this because I'm stuck at the login. Is there anything I can do?
