Has anyone heard any news on this issue that happened suddenly with the Ventura update? PDF icons are showing as generic documents. It was fine before Ventura. Really annoying. Tried the safe mode blah blah blah and it does NOTHING. Apple and Adobe need to look into this.

FWIW, pdf files are working fine here in 13.1, and I have not heard of this so far, which tells me that more likely than not it is a local issue, not an overall bug - as issues with pdf files obviously would affect almost everyone.

Select one pdf file and press Command-I to open the Info window.

What does it say under "Open With"? If not Preview, then choose Preview, and the click the Change All button:

If the problem persists, then maybe resetting the Icon Services database could help.

The resolve will come in a point update to the macOS....

The current stable release of Ventura including bug fixes, security updates is macOS Ventura 13.1

Yep. That's what I have. 13.1. So there's supposed to be another update coming out to fix this?

?

There will be many updates coming along in the life of the new macOS Ventura...dealing with bug fixes and security.

for example that last macOS Monterey 12.x.x made it all the way to 12.6.2— so you can reasonably expect over the coarse of the year we will see similar point updates historically speaking.

The problem is not with Adobe but with any app, including native apps like Mail and PDFViewer. Apple engineers should take note.

W/o colored icons it is very hard to tell if an attachment has been attached or not. The pale icon with a pale border is practically invisible.

The Finder is fine: it shows app icons. The icon image gets lost in translation in other environments. Long frustration-threads over at the Adobe discussions, but Ventura is the cause, not Adobe.

Where can we post this to Apple? Don't complain here; go to Apple.

I just sent a product complaint to Apple here:

Actually, this problem IS across the board with Ventura. I did check my Get Info option first - says Adobe Acrobat, but only shows as a generic document. There are many many forums complaining of this being an issue.

I think I need to clarify a bit more: The pdf files are showing as a thumbnail preview on my desktop and hard drive. MOST of the problem comes in Apple Mail. They are not showing as proper pdf files when they are attached if they are multi-page pdfs. The single page pdf's show as a preview of the file itself. If you don't have the .pdf extension, you can't tell what kind of file it is. The pdf icon doesn't show correctly in Acrobat either. Attaching screen shots.

It seems most every release of a new macOS this is re-occurring issue w/generic icons...

Let Apple® point updates and/ or Adobe updates work it out— I would not beat my head against the wall.

keep your software up to date.

I'm also finding that when I attach a PDF file made in Preview, my recipients cannot open the document. This never used to happen and is a recent problem since updating to Ventura 13.1. I have just converted to a brand new MacBook Air M1 and perhaps I have missed updating software or downloading something I need to make this happen, but I can't figure out how to fix this...
