Gmail not syncing across devices in apple mail app

I believe I have read and tried all solutions in the community but still cannot sync gmail across devices. All apps up to date, OS up to date, IMAP enabled, signed out and back in again on all devices, deleted the mailbox on all devices then reinstalled yet when I delete an actual letter in gmail using my phone, my Mac mini and Mac air still show the letter as new. My inbox is flooding.

  1. All I had to do was open up on my iPhone 13 into the settings
  2. In the search bar typed in "Accounts"
  3. Select Mail -> Accounts option
  4. In the Accounts view look towards the end and in the Fetch New Data, changed the setting to PUSH

Solve my problem instantly. Do this across your other apple devices

This was the solution that worked for me!

I use multiple gmail accounts on the Mail app/prog -- on both my iPhone & MacBook. Typically, I have no issues with syncing changes made in either direction and was being thrown when the changes I made on my iPhone (deleting, opening, moving to folders, etc.) were not syncing with my MacBook.

I opened webmail (mail.google.com, in this case) and found that the changes hadn't been made there either.

While other threads/solutions may be helpful for others (making sure iOS is up to date, phone restarted, fetched new data / synchronized accts on each device, toggled from deleted to archived in advanced settings), I was nearly to the point of deleting & adding the accounts back ... nearly, but didn't want to go through the hassle.

I'm sure glad I found this thread. Toggling from 'Push' to 'Manual' for the gmail accounts on my iPhone (settings > mail > accounts > fetch new data) worked immediately. Changes made on the iPhone synced with webmail and the Mail program on the MacBook in under a minute.

Thank you Jimborino! :)

Hey Fretnicker, I began experiencing these issues last week and toggling from 'Push' to 'Manual' for the gmail accounts on my iPhone (settings > mail > accounts > fetch new data) solved my issues instantly.

I hope this works for you too. Good luck!

On an ios phone or tablet, under the "Mail/accounts/fetch new data" make sure fetch is set to manual.

It seems IOS updates sometimes reset this to "automatically" which even indicates right there that it will only fetch new data when on WiFi and plugged into power. That's one reason it won't resync with Gmail. When set to manual, when you open the mail app or drag down to refresh the inbox, it's manually syncing and will do it properly.

Hope it helps.

I was able to fix mine after doing all the other standard things, I went again into settings, mail, and selected the gmail account. Deleted it and then added it again (make sure you know your password to account). It now works smooth as silk and the iPad instantly updates the iPhone. I tried this earlier but software was earlier version so maybe had something to do with it not working first time. You may have to do this on all your devices. It was getting to be a real pain… but now back to way Apple products should work… seamlessly. Good luck
