Compatibility of SD memory card

I have SD Memory cards and use them with my Mac iPhotos, why when I download the iPhone photos onto the card and try to upload into my iPhotos app on my laptop that it isn't readable or recognized??

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.6

Perhaps you can try to transfer the photos from the iPhone direct to your Mac, see -> Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac or PC -> https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201302
