iPhone SE Shuts off and dies overnight

I have an iPhone SE 2020 and typically I use about 20% of the battery in one day. I have very light usage of the phone.

I only charge the phone in the morning and typically go to bed with it at about 70%. By morning the phone's alarm wakes me and it is at about 60 to 64%, so about a 6 to 10% discharge overnight.

But, recently I sometimes use about 50% charge over the day and go to bed with it at 50% or lower.

My issue is when I do this by morning the phone is dead and I get the red battery/lightning cable screen in the morning if I try to turn it on.

Also, I have noticed the phone stays at a 100% through about half the days usage the suddenly drops to 90% or so. It feels like the phone is not ready the battery charge correctly.

Note the battery life is reported as 96%.

You can see here where the phone turned off at about 48% charge at about six in the morning.

Hi Shamalama,

From what you described in your original post, we recommend you try the steps in the link below since your battery is draining faster than expected.

iPhone Battery and Performance

Next, we'd like to show you how to perform the recommended troubleshooting steps via the link above. Please click to open the link, then read through the guidance in the section titled "How to maximize battery performance."

How to maximize battery performance
“Battery life” is the amount of time a device runs before it needs to be recharged. “Battery lifespan” is the amount of time a battery lasts until it needs to be replaced. One factor affecting battery life and lifespan is the mix of things you do with your device. No matter how you use your device, there are ways to help. A battery’s lifespan is related to its “chemical age,” which is more than just the passage of time. It includes different factors, such as the number of charge cycles and how it was cared for. Follow these tips to maximize battery performance and help extend battery lifespan. For example, keep iPhone half-charged when it’s stored for the long term. Also avoid charging or leaving iPhone in hot environments, including direct sun exposure, for extended periods of time.

The reason why we are recommending the steps above is because they will help you to understand your iPhone's performance and its relation to the battery.

Please let us know the outcome after giving the above steps a try.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!
