facebook jumps around
Is anyone having issues with Facebook scrolling and jumping through posts when you don't even have your hand on the mouse?

Yes. Facebook has become unusable for me on the Mac. If you're in the general timeline feed (House icon towards the top left), FB spews out ad after ad without you doing anything.
I timed it twice, and both times FB barfed up ads for 30 seconds straight before it finally stopped. By then, an article I actually wanted to read had been pushed up and off the top of the list. I couldn't even get back to it.
I did check my settings and had every possible ad control set to never show ads (as much as you can turn off). Made no difference.
This doesn't happen if I'm on my iPad using Facebook's dedicated app.
Edit: Per some of other comments here, it seems to be directly related to the current version of Safari and Ventura. If I use Firefox (same OS), no problem.

Same problem with Facebook in Safari over here in Norway. It started yesterday (Norwegian time) when scrolling down the Facebook newsfeed, and to me it seems like that is the only issue, but not in people's profile or groups - the scrolling is normal and stops when you stop... Everything seems to work fine in Google Chrome, so use browser for the time being. It seems to be a problem in the new Vetura iOS, but also in the Monterey iOS. I worried it was my MacBook, but thankfully it seems to be a iOS problem. Thank you for taking time time and efforts making this tread. Hopefully they find a solution soon, though as mentioned just use Google Chrome in the meantime.

Yes. It started after the last OS update. I can't really use facebook at all. I hope Apple is working on a fix for this.
It doesn’t seem to correlate with Ventura updates. Safari is less tolerant of non-standard websites than other browsers. There are indicators that FB made some changes Friday (a couple of days after the last Ventura update) that caused the issue. But, regardless, until it’s sorted, try another browser. Brave and Firefox are frequently recommended.
Yes on Safari v16.0 (Mac OS 11.7), started 1/14/2023. Clearing cache didn't fix the behavior. Chrome browser is not affected.
Here is another option.
In Safari settings, go to "Advanced".
Click the box that says "Show develop settings in menubar".
Now, in the new "Develop" menu, go to "User Agent" and change your user agent to an iPhone or iPad Safari user agent. Don't try any other user agent. Facebook won't allow those.
It works fine on a Mac as long as you're not using Safari, which is supposed to be the same engine as Chrome, but every so often something like this pops up. So I'm using Chrome for FB until it's fixed.
I posted this on the other thread and will post here too since it is relevant to everyone. This issue seems to be stemming from Facebook's end, not Apple. I think it was coincidence that for many it started in relation to a Safari update.
For me it started on Jan 14 on both my computers, which run vastly different versions of the OS and of Safari. Neither had received an update recently. One is a 15" 2008 Macbook Pro running MacOS 10.14.6 Mojave (which hasn't received an update in years) and a 2015 Macbook Air running MacOS 12.6 Monterrey.
So let's continue to bombarde Facebook with complaints until they fix it!
Not the solution I was hoping for but finally tried Facebook via Chrome and the problem disappeared.
I have found the easiest solution is to delete the Facebook shortcut in Safari, login with Chrome, create a shortcut and then drag it into the task bar. When I want to use Facebook I click on the shortcut and it takes me straight in via Chrome, however, I logged out of FB in Chrome and lost the shortcut, so it only seems to work if you stay logged in. I have to say I'm a total novice when it comes to technical stuff!
Report the problem to Facebook. My wife says it recently started doing that on on her account. We tested it on both a MBP/Monterey and MBA/Ventura with the same issues. There have been no updates or changes to either Mac. Or maybe it's a new FB "feature".
This is happening for me as well, as of yesterday (Jan 14). It's practically unusable. And I can confirm it has nothing to do with any updates on Apple's end, since it is happening with both my machines, a 15" 2008 Macbook Pro running MacOS 10.14.6 Mojave (which hasn't received an update in years) and a 2015 Macbook Air running MacOS 12.6 Monterrey.
Hopefully FB will do something about it, and soon, since I'd like to be able to still use it on my big Macbook Pro.
Not FB problem since it works fine if I use my Windows computer....has to be Apple's issue.
The auto scrolling is happening on Facebook on both my iPad and my MacBook Air. It does not happen on my phone or when using the app on the iPad. It is just when using Safari. I did load an update from Apple yesterday which can’t be a coincidence. Facebook is not to blame. I went through every setting on the devices, Safari and Facebook and can’t find anything to make it stop.
Restarting the Mac doesn't help and the problem reappears quickly if you just scroll down a bit; i.e., use Facebook, normally for about 20 seconds. It doesn't occur in Chrome. Only Safari. Mine's up to date: version 16.2 (18614.3.7.1.5). A number of friends have confirmed the same problem.

By the way, I am also wondering how to report this to Apple / Safari support.
You can let them know your observations here:
Or, you can contact Apple Support directly using the “Support” link at the bottom left of every page of these forums.
