facebook jumps around
Is anyone having issues with Facebook scrolling and jumping through posts when you don't even have your hand on the mouse?

Yes. Facebook has become unusable for me on the Mac. If you're in the general timeline feed (House icon towards the top left), FB spews out ad after ad without you doing anything.
I timed it twice, and both times FB barfed up ads for 30 seconds straight before it finally stopped. By then, an article I actually wanted to read had been pushed up and off the top of the list. I couldn't even get back to it.
I did check my settings and had every possible ad control set to never show ads (as much as you can turn off). Made no difference.
This doesn't happen if I'm on my iPad using Facebook's dedicated app.
Edit: Per some of other comments here, it seems to be directly related to the current version of Safari and Ventura. If I use Firefox (same OS), no problem.
Also seeing this issue in Safari beyond the first few posts, after reading some of the replies here I tried Firefox and it is not nearly as bad (I avoid Chrome or anything Alphabet as much as possible). If anything, the issue seems related to posts that are nothing more than ads.
No, no issues but I suggest that you restart Facebook to see if the problem persists
FB jumps and skips like mad under latest version of Monterey with latest Safari update, too, on MacMini 2018 and MacBook Air M1 2020. It's unusable. Just started last night (14 January).

Hopefully FB will do something about it, and soon, since I'd like to be able to still use it on my big Macbook Pro.
Meanwhile, you may want to try another browser.
Went to FB this morning and at first thought it was fixed, but after reading 2 posts it started jumping around. Will be using Chrome for FB until they get their act together. Can't believe Apple hasn't fixed it yet.
on this end, macbook pro 2019, 16 inch/ Monterey, but it seems it only started with the Safari upgrade via apple last week. Version 16.2 (17614.3.7.1.7, 17614)
Contacting facebook is a punishment. Past history- u tell them of an issue, and they respond a. year or more later.
This looks like an apple question, and something to fix.
I had to rethink that one, too. My system hasn't changed for over a week. Then just yesterday Facebook starts jumping around like a grasshopper on crack. And only in Safari on macOS. Seems to suggest Facebook did something to cause this.
Could try this link and just maybe Safari/Apple might read it and take some action. Im sure if we all bombard them with the same issue it will get sorted out a lot quicker. Feedback - Safari - Apple
Good Luck
Safari - Ventura had an update either Friday or yesterday and the problems started.
well it only started happening after the most recent Safari update, but I didn't install it right away. So for me it was the other day. This version:
Version 16.2 (17614.3.7.1.7, 17614)
That's exactly what I did...loaded Chrome and use it for Facebook. Once again started happening after I updated Ventura. So sorry I made the switch a few months ago from Monterey, don't like a lot of things about Ventura....
Started today here also. I've not changed anything recently and haven't uploaded a picture in months.
As Chrome runs Facebook smoothly there is no doubt in my mind it's a Safari issue. I'm on a MAcBook Air and checked with a few friends who run Facebook via the app on their iPhones and they are running normal.
As I recall Safari has had some compatibility issues with various sites in the past. Yesterday and today it's with Facebook. Likely FB made a change but who is suppose to adapt to who? It appears neither is as user orientated as would be wise for long term relations. And that, unfortunately, doesn't surprise me.
Yeah, it has the "feel" of a facebook update to how its page/feed refresh works, and Safari isn't handling it well. I searched posts about the same issue and it's happened before, as far back as 2011. Don't know which party fixed it before, FB or Apple, but it got fixed.
I downloaded firefox to see what would happen and while the same jumping isn't happening, there are some very subtle oddities (seems pixel like) going on which makes me wonder who the problem lies with.
